In creating the materials to be used for both street and interior furnishings, Odone Angelo pays exceptionally close attention to the planning and design process. To this end, the company has set up Odone Design Lab, an in-house department perched consistently on the leading edge thanks to its on-going commitment to research and study and the innovative processes and solutions thus developed and adopted. Odone Angelo’s commitment and passion for design do not stop here, however. Coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Italian unification in 2011, Odone Design Lab made its own particular contribution to the celebrations by creating an award aimed at the rising stars of Italian design: the Odone Design Lab Prize. In collaboration with the prestigious Faculty of Design and Arts of the University of Bolzano, and under the supervision of Professor Claudio Larcher, who teaches Product Design there, students were asked to work on the theme of marble in the home. The aim of this was to highlight the versatility of the material and to show how it can be used in applications that extend well beyond the classic indoor and outdoor floorings and wall claddings. The young designers then presented their works (the material for which was provided free of charge by Odone Angelo), and the prizes for the various categories were awarded during the MADE EXPO – Milano Architettura Design Edilizia, the Architecture, Design and Construction fair held from 5 to 8 October 2011 in Milan. Other similar ideas are being studied for the future in order to support Italian design, in which Odone Angelo has an important role to play as regards stone processing.
